There is a short climb up a hill between Ao Nang Beach and the Centara Grand Beach Resort and Villas complex that is fun to do and provides an opportunity for taking photos like those below. This is a wooden staircase up the side of the hill and a steep climb down to the other side. You will have to register with the guard at the guardhouse.

The length of the hike is only about 325 meters long (1,070 feet), and involves some steep climbing. The beach at the Centara Resort is also about 320 meters long so your total hike there and back will be about 1,300 meters (4,260 ft.)

There are monkeys on the Ao Nang side of the hill. Some of the monkeys are agressive. All have ticks and fleas which can transmit disease. Please don’t hand feed the monkeys! Every few years the troop needs to be culled. Trappers take them because their numbers get to be too great.

You can walk out onto the plastic puzzle pier if the waves are not too severe. Be careful, it’s slippery and easy to fall over. Don’t take infants.
